Open Air Cinema, Berlin Art Week Garten 2026

As part of Berlin Art Week Garten 2026, the grounds of the Neue Nationalgalerie hosted an open-air cinema programme dedicated to contemporary artist films. Organised by Olaf Stüber as curator and producer of Videoart at Midnight, the four-evening programme brought together recent works by artists from four Berlin-based programmes and initiatives, presenting different approaches to contemporary moving image practices.
On 10 September 2026, the program featured a selection of works by students and alumni of Experimental Film and Media Art at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), curated by Nina Fischer and Sabrina Labis.
The screening presented nine recent works that explored different forms of experimental filmmaking. The films addressed a range of subjects including memory, family, identity, landscape, social histories, and questions of belonging. Together, they reflected the diverse artistic approaches developed within the Experimental Film and Media Art class.
The programme included Inti Gallardo and Lorenzo Tani, Autotrophic Archaeology (2026, 9:15 min); ZouZou, Will We Still Meet? (2026, 5:30 min); Maggie Rouleau, Apple Pie (2026, 2:07 min); Yumeng He, Jiejie (2026, 12:27 min); Ilgın Uçar, FIRFIR (2026, 10:00 min); Simón Jaramillo Vallejo, Huellas de Carbón 001 (2025, 8:41 min); Ran Ren, The Land of Ulro (2026, 18:30 min); Ying Chen, Ciao Ciao Guo (2025, 6:21 min); and Edlin Jap, The Wedding Photo (2025, 3:26 min).
The works were presented as a curated screening under the open sky. This format brought the different films together as a shared programme and provided an opportunity to encounter the students’ work in a public setting outside the university.
Alongside Experimental Film and Media Art at UdK, the participating programs included the Lensbased Community, the BPA// Berlin program for artists, and the Between Bridges residency program.
